OUR ORPINGTONS
All of our Orpingtons are from 100% imported English lines.
Please note that our roosters have been very "active" with the hens this spring and the hens are currently missing a substantial amount of feathers on their backs. However, our customers have been asking about a website and we wanted to create one to enable convenient access to pictures of our breeding stock and information about our farm. The girls are now wearing hen saddles and we will post updated pictures when their lovely feathers have grown back. Some of our roosters also have varying degrees of frostbite damage to their combs due to the extreme cold this past two winters. The frostbite damage is not something a rooster will pass on to his offspring. It is simply a cosmetic blemish and not hereditary.

Large Fowl Chocolate and Chocolate Cuckoo Orpingtons
We have excellent genetic diversity in our large fowl Chocolate and Chocolate Cuckoo Orpingtons. The bloodlines represented in our breeding pen include Ewe Crazy Farms, Heirloom Orpingtons and Ultimate Orpingtons. These are large, fluffy and friendly! We have both solid and cuckoo hens covered by a solid roo and a cuckoo cockerel. We also have one split to spangle hen in this pen so you may get a chick split for spangling. |

Spangled/Mottled Orpingtons
Our Spangled/Mottled Orpingtons are primarily from Heirloom Orpingtons imported lines, we do have one hen from a mixture of Autumn Farm Orpingtons and Heirloom Orpingtons line. These are all very laid back and gentle, this striking variety is a favorite here on the farm! Some of the early importers of this variety used Jubilee blood in their lines, therefore red leakage may occur. Breeders are working hard to breed this red leakage out of their lines. In our continuing efforts to accomplish this within our flock, we obtained new stock in spring 2014 and swapped out all but one exceptional hen with a whole new group of breeders from Heirloom Orpingtons. It is our understanding that Jubilee blood was not used in this group. However, we cannot guarantee that occasional chicks will not have red leakage. If so, these chicks should only be used for pets, egg laying, or meat and not in a breeding pen. |

White Orpingtons
Our White Orpingtons were obtained directly from Greenfire Farms. Their bright white color is quite striking in the barnyard! The white hens are especially sweet and are always looking for treats from our two year old daughter. Our breeding goal for our White Orpingtons is to increase the number of silver based chicks we are hatching. Based on our research, silver based white Orpingtons generally do not yellow in the sun to the same extent as gold based white Orpingtons. Some of the chicks we are hatching now appear to be silver based and we hope to increase the number of silver based chicks we hatch while maintaining excellent type. However, we cannot guarantee that chicks will be silver based and you should be aware that white chicks may have shades of white, yellow, silver/gray, or gold in their down. |

Red Cuckoo and Red Orpingtons
Our Red Orpingtons were obtained directly from Greenfire Farms and Fancychicks. In our Red Orpington breeding program our breeding goals for the upcoming year include maintaining excellent type and adding genetic diversity through incorporating Red Cuckoo Orpingtons obtained from Fancychicks. We have a Red Cuckoo rooster from Fancychicks and a solid Red rooster from Greenfire farms covering two red cuckoo Fancychicks hens, one red Fancychicks hen and four Greenfire Farms line red hens, therefore the genetic diversity in the chicks hatched from this pen will be good and chicks from this pen should be a combination of solid red and red cuckoo. |

Partridge/Blue Partridge Orpingtons
This year we have set up our Partridge Orpington breeding pens in order to provide our customers with chicks that will give them a good start at genetic diversity within their own flocks. We have two breeding pens set up for 2016. In the first pen we have a Blue Partridge rooster from Fancychicks covering hens that are half Fancychicks line and half Greenfire Farms line Blue Partridge Orpingtons. In the second pen we have a Blue Partridge Orpington rooster that is half Fancychicks line and half Greenfire Farms line covering Greenfire Farms line hens. From these two pens chicks could be Splash, Blue or regular Partridge. These are one of our favorites with their beautiful penciling, sweet disposition and lots of fluff! |

Silver Laced Orpingtons
Our silver laced were obtained from Ewe Crazy Farms. This is a truly stunning color. They have an easygoing personality and are very large and fluffy. We have been extremely happy with the grow outs we kept back from last years hatch. Many of the photos are of pullets and cockerels! We are very excited to see them fill out even more as they mature further. One disclaimer - it is our understanding that occasionally a chick could develop yellow legs as it matures. If this occurs it should not be used for breeding purposes. We do not use any yellow legged breeders and none of our grow outs to this point have shown this trait. However, we wish too make potential buyers aware of the possibility. |

Silver Laced Blue Project
In Spring of 2015 we were fortunate to obtain a splash laced project pullet that is the 2nd generation of this project. The first generation was an outcross Silver Laced to Gold Laced Blue English Orpington. The original breeder then took the offspring back to pure Silver Laced and our pullet is the product of this cross. We have crossed her back to one of our Silver Laced roosters. She is a lovely pullet, unfortunately she is showing some significant breeding wear, hence the hen saddle. Please note that the red showing on the pullet in the photo is dirt, she does not show any red leakage. We will update with photos of the next generation later this year. We may offer some of these project chicks in Spring 2016 to others interested in working with this color. These are a work in progress and we would anticipate that chicks could show imperfections such as gold leakage, leg feathering, etc. |

Silver Partridge Project
The breeding stock for our Silver Partridge Project English Orpingtons came from Tim Reeves (light1964 on RBA). The chicks we are hatching are the 4th generation of this project. This line originated from regular red Partridge Orpingtons from the Greenfire line. A few silver chicks popped up randomly and have been selectively bred since then. We are currently working on improving the lacing and watching for red leakage. Anyone interested in working on this project as well that purchases chicks should be aware these are a work in progress. Chicks could show incomplete lacing, red leakage, etc. They are intended for those interested in something a little different and fun, but are not a finished project by any means. |

Columbian Project
This young rooster came with the Silver Partridge project chicks we obtained when we purchased the breeders for that project. However, his coloring much more closely matches the Columbian color pattern. He is huge, gentle and stunning. Therefore, we decided to put him over one of our solid white hens to see if he will throw a similar color pattern in his chicks. This is a project and there is no way to know for sure that his coloring will breed true. However, in any event, the chicks should be a nice addition to any backyard flock or fun for someone looking to try to continue the project. We will most likely offer a limited number of these chicks to those who are interested. |
